Gay-ville is a global, gay-friendly vacation accommodations and apartment sublet network. “Established last year, the gay-owned and operated business serves the unique travel needs of the LGBT community by connecting queer clients with rentals in major global cities”[1] The company was launched in June of 2011 by four entrepreneurs and has apartment listings in over 100 countries. Gay-ville’s promotional videos have achieved almost 1 million YouTube views.

History

[edit]

Gay-ville was a concept that was conceived by four friends who shared a passion for travel. The four founders, Eliad Cohen, Gadi Tunes, Gonen Dukas, and Lior Sabag realized that there are many gay travelers who prefer to travel in groups to gay destinations such as New York, Berlin, Madrid, Tel Aviv, and Rio de Janeiro. Founder Gadi Tunes says “We want to feel free to do what we like [when traveling] -- we want a gay-friendly environment where we can be ourselves. We want to meet lots of people, have a great time and share our travel experience together. We don’t need to spend $500 a night on a fancy hotel to have a good time.”[2]

Gay-ville

[edit]

Gay-ville is an apartment rental and sublet network aimed at gay-friendly travelers. Gay-ville's slogan "We Travel Better" is a reference to the fact that gay men travel differently than the wider population and Gay-ville's goal is to provide the platform for gay people to maximize their vacation experiences. Users can either rent out a room in their apartment or their entire apartment while they are traveling for extra cash or search the database for available accommodations during their vacations. The website features a sublet search engine, as well a destination information portal. This feature is unique in that it shares general tourist information about each city, as well as gay specific information such as parties and events, directions to the gay neighborhood, gay hotspots, and a rating of how liberal the destination is. This exclusive feature also offers a “gay map” and tips from locals.

Promotions/YouTube

[edit]

Gay-ville has used guerilla-marketing tactics to promote the company, many of which have included commercials and launch parties throughout the world. Eliad Cohen, the Head of PR for Gay-ville, created a successful YouTube commercial series, which has achieved almost 1 million YouTube views for the 8 videos which they have produced. Gay-ville’s “Hot Summer Shower” video achieved over 550,000 views itself in only a few weeks.[3] Gay-ville was also featured on the Financial Night Show on Israeli television.[4]
