The Internet of Everything (IoE) is described as a connection built upon four pillars: people, its interaction with physical devices (things), the data produced by this interaction, and the processing of this data. [1] IoE is a term that emerges from the Internet of Things (IoT) deployment, with the goal to improve people’s lives, and also to improve businesses and industries. Unlike IoT, which is the connectivity of digital devices, IoE is the connectivity among people, physical devices, data and the management of this data.

Adding to the connectivity of people, the capacity to connect an ever-increasing number of devices of things, to process and analyze the data, and then use it to innovate people-based processes has a huge potential across every industry. [2]

The implementation of the IoE requires the development of new technologies and infrastructure, including the use of advanced sensors, networking, and data analytics. Additionally, there are concerns about the security and privacy of the data collected and shared through the IoE, and steps are being taken to ensure that data is protected and used ethically.

History[edit]

Cisco started using the term Internet of Everything (IoE), and defines it as “the networked connection of people, process, data, and things.” And states that “the benefit of IoE is derived from the compound impact of connecting people, process, data, and things, and the value this increased connectedness creates as “everything” comes online.” [3]

Difference between IoE and IoT[edit]

Due to the advances in IT technologies, big data, connection technologies, and smart devices, “our environment is transforming into an Internet of Everything (IoE). The Internet of Everything has become a catch-all phrase to describe adding connectivity and intelligence to just about every device in order to give them special functions.” [4] [5]

IoE involves the whole Big Data collection. Its goal is to build interconnectivity among people and things, to acquire data to analyze it and transform this raw data into actionable information to create innovative solutions for modern and smart living.
