I am a senior Psychology and Sociology major at the University of Pittsburgh taking a research practicum course in Sociology. After graduation I plan to attend graduate school in Counseling Psychology in Pittsburgh. I am origninally from Slippery Rock, PA. Below is a picture of me and a picture of the house my fiance and I own in Slippery Rock.
As part of the course we are required to use a Wikipedia userpage to post updates on our projects. The course examines social change in the United States; specifically focusing on wards in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our first assignment is to examine the effects of deindustrialization in countries similar to the United States. For this assignment I chose to review the economy and social changes in Australia.
This is my first edit of a Wikipedia page.
For the first assignment on chapters 1 and 2 from Global Social Change, we examined the terminology: globalization, deglobalization, hegemony, neoliberalism, and neoconservatism. As well as various sociological levels of analysis applicable to global social phenomena.
For the second assignment on chapters 12 and 13 from Global Social Change, we looked at the changing levels of women's labor force participation during globalization, as well as an introduction to new terms such as "proletarianization" and transnational feminism. In Chapter 13 we looked at the anti-corporate globalization movement, it's successes and challenges.
For the third assignment on chapter 4 from Global Social Change, we looked at various global approaches to globalization. I agree most with the global society approach because it encompasses the political, economical, and cultural elements of globalization I believe should be recognized.
I am very hungry and slightly cold at this moment in class.
