Eternal Return: Black Survival (Also known as Eternal Return.[1])is an upcoming free-to-play multiplayer online battle royale MOBA developed and published by Nimble Neuron. It will launch for Steam Early Access on 24 July 2020[2]. Players take part in an experiment on the game's fictional Lumia Island and fight other players to be the final survivor. Supported languages are English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Plot

[edit]

Eternal Return is set in the Lumia Island universe, taking place on a secluded island with various areas. Test Subjects are part of an experiment to further evolution and create an elite species of humans. Players spawn onto the island, initially armed with only a basic weapon, and must strategize and craft weapons to survive and be the final player.[3]

Gameplay

[edit]

15 players (18 for Duo or Trio modes) are spawned onto an island and are set against each other. The map, Lumia Island, has 16 distinct areas. The game uses battle royale mechanics, marking different areas of the map as restricted areas in lieu of the traditional closing circle. Players collect materials from various containers, slain animals or other players, or from various unique points around the map. There are multiple playable characters with unique skills and abilities, drawing from traditional MOBA mechanics. Each character also has a variety of weapon types to choose from, allowing for an additional ability to be used in combat. Players are encouraged to strategize and efficiently build items by visiting the areas of the map that needed materials appear in. There are also neutral monsters and staff that host the experiment that players can kill for bonuses and materials. The final player alive is crowned the winner.

Development

[edit]

Eternal Return is a successor to the original Black Survival[4], made by the same studio, known previously as Archbears[5]

In May 2019, the game had an Alpha Test playable by the public[6], followed by another public alpha test in October 2019[7]

On June 24th, 2020, the game entered its closed beta stage[8]
