Sudanese Researchers Initiative[edit]

Anwar Dafa-Alla is the founder of Sudanese Researchers Initiative (SRI) Facebook in December 28th of 2009 which developed over the years to become the Sudanese Researchers Foundation (SRF) Arabic & Sudanese Researchers Foundation (SRF)English website

Anwar Dafa-Alla's establishment of the Sudanese Researchers Initiative (SRI) on Facebook on December 28, 2009, marks a significant milestone in the development and dissemination of knowledge within Sudan. This initiative, through its evolution into the Sudanese Researchers Foundation (SRF), underscores the importance of leveraging social media and digital platforms for educational purposes, particularly in regions where access to traditional academic resources might be limited.

The transition from a Facebook initiative to a more formal foundation indicates a broadening of its mission and capabilities, likely encompassing a wider range of educational activities, research support, and possibly advocacy for science and education in Sudan. Initiatives like SRI and SRF play a crucial role in fostering a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and academic discourse, which are essential for the socio-economic development of any nation.

By providing a platform for Sudanese scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts to share knowledge, collaborate, and engage in intellectual exchange, Dafa-Alla's efforts have contributed significantly to the educational landscape of Sudan. This initiative not only aids in bridging the knowledge gap but also empowers individuals by providing access to scientific information and research opportunities, thereby nurturing a knowledgeable and informed community.

The foundation's impact extends beyond individual learning, as it likely influences educational policies, promotes research collaborations both within and outside Sudan, and raises awareness about the importance of scientific research and education in addressing societal challenges. Through such platforms, the barriers to education and research are lowered, making knowledge more accessible to a broader audience and fostering a conducive environment for innovation and development.

Advocacy against the U.S. Sanctions on Sudan[edit]

Anwar has started advocacy against the U.S. Sanctions on Sudan since August of 2002 when he was participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI2002) in South Korea. He drafted a letter explaining the situation for the participants from 82 different countries link on his blog.

Teaching Philosophy[edit]

″My experience both as a student and as a researcher taught me how closely research and teaching are related. I want to stimulate students of all levels to discover and to think critical. I believe that success – whether personal or professional – is generated from three critical building blocks: knowledge, critical thinking, and curiosity. These building blocks have an enduring, cyclical relationship; knowledge helps us to understand the world around us as well as ourselves, critical thinking gives us the ability to incorporate knowledge and apply it endlessly, and curiosity, which is the result of realizing the limitations of current knowledge, drives us to acquire additional knowledge. I see my role as a head of the department as one of transferring a fundamental knowledge of course content to students while cultivating their critical thinking skills through the application of theory and concepts to currently applied computing and IT-related issues. We expect that our students will have a variety of levels of desire for learning. We will strive to nurture an environment that will encourage them to seek areas that excite them, for we believe that true learning occurs best when it is most meaningful. Our ultimate goal in teaching is to provide the requisite knowledge, encourage and develop critical thinking skills, and stimulate natural curiosity that will guide students in their efforts of pursuing success. We will spare no efforts to achieve excellence in learning, researching and serving our community. Finally, we believe that our responsibility is to empower our students to become the leaders of the knowledge economy in Sudan and the future entrepreneurs.″*
