Caspionet is an international satellite television channel and the first launched in its originating country of Kazakhstan. The channel is multilingual being broadcast in English, Kazakh and Russian. Launched on October 25, 2002, the channel is run by the national Khabar television news agency.

Caspionet is available throughout Central Asia on cable and satellite networks and in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa on satellite networks. The potential audience of the channel is almost 100 million viewers making it one of the largest channels in Europe in terms of potential viewers. In addition, Caspionet provides live on-line transmission of its programmes on its website www.caspionet.kz which also hosts archives of documentaries and general interest programmes.

Caspionet is primarily a news channel providing general, business and sports news from Kazakhstan and the Central Asian regions with particular focus on local current affairs. It also has the aim of popularizing Kazakhstan through television media and has a number of programmes which fulfill this mission:

News Coverage

All news coverage uses original news material with voice-over in Kazakh, English and Russian

  • News: Local news covering the activities of the Government both home and abroad as well as news about ordinary people’s achievements.
  • Business: News predominantly from the burgeoning financial industry of Central Asia as well as Kazakhstan’s mineral extraction industry and the implementation of the country’s innovative development strategy.
  • Sport: The sports news section covers the achievements of local athletes both at home and abroad

Since 2010, Caspionet has moved away from being a news channel and is featuring a series of programmes aimed at informing viewers about all aspects of life in Kazakhstan:

  • Steppe Tales: An original English language travel documentary featuring presenter Jonathan Newell travelling through the Republic. Also available with Russian and Kazakh voice-over
  • The Real Economy: Business documentary covering all aspects of the Kazakh Economy from blue-chip businesses to corner shops
  • Limitless Science: Presenter Kadyrzhan Kuanyshbayev takes viewers on a tour of the main innovations resulting from Kazakhstan’s science and technology industries
  • Persona Grata: Presenter Kamila Kamnazarovna meets the personalities behind the facades of the diplomatic missions in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana
