Learning[edit]

I ended up here because I'm trying to publish a Wikipedia article. Hope that article is the right word. I have been saying that I'm doing a Wikipedia page. Maybe that's because the topic is more close linguistically to Spanish than English and I love saying the word "página" in Spanish--with the proper accent.

All seemed to be going well until I asked a question in the Teahouse or whatever it is called. Next people started editing my work and commenting on it. How could that be, I wondered. I was working in my sandbox. I had not invite anyone to play with me in my sandbox. Turns out that editors, or administrators, or whatever they are called can play in your sandbox, and tell you how to build your sandcastle, without an invitation.

I'm close to giving up on the idea of developing an article. My entire text is based on some fotos of a mural-and tons of research. A "well-meaning" soul has questioned whether I can use the images. He referred the question to Wikipedia gurus. (I have no idea who they are.) Copyright, (did I spell it right?) rules seem to say that I have the right to publish pictures of artwork that I have taken.

So. I'm on hold. Waiting for a decision on my images. Sure, I could submit my text for review. But I did once and it was quickly rejected. Not enough secondary sources, I was advised. Ok. I took my cues about footnotes and secondary sources from another page about a similar mural by an artist who belonged to the same school of painting. But I get it, you can't expect consistency with such a diverse, mostly volunteer group.

Wikipedia is a wonderful resource. Here's hoping I can figure out a way to contribute.

And yes. Along the way, some folks have given me helpful hints. I am on this page due to a suggestion from a reviewer of my work. (I'm still having problems with the fact that I received comments before submitting a draft,) For example they suggested that I add the box in the top right corner about my linguistic ability. How did I make the box. Not sure how. I found one on another page, dropped it on mine and made some revisions. Unorthodox maybe. But it worked. Somewhere I learned that copy and paste is the most important command in the cyberworld.
