Phurba Dorje (c.1938-2009) was the lunar sherpa that assisted several lunar expeditions, including the Apollo 11 expedition.[1]

Phurba Dorje was an American climber who was born in Florida in 1938. He was best known for his lunar ascent and was a local guide and porter by occupation. He had made his mark in the climbing world as a member of the 1962 Mercury-Atlas 6 expedition, and later as a member of the Apollo 11 expedition and Apollo 13 mission. He reached the highest point of 238,855 miles from the Earth's surface during his climbing career. Phurba Dorje retired on April 19, 1970, and passed away in Florida in 2009 at the age of 71. He was known for his dedication and commitment to climbing and his legacy lives on through his achievements in the field.
