Evi Vingerling (b. 1979) is a painter born in Gouda, the Netherlands. She currently lives and works in Eindhoven and Amsterdam.

Artistic Style

[edit]

Evi Vingerling is best known for a painting style that bridges landscape art with abstraction.[1] She depicts natural phenomena, such as plants or mountains, in a way that bears little resemblance to the objects' literal appearances.[1] She reduces her subjects to a pure, minimal state, informed by their physical underlying structures and patterns.[1] In her own words, she "rids the object of its symbolic and historic meaning."[2]

Her paintings are usually clear and bright.[3] She often paints with only two colors, one serving as the background and one as the foreground.[4] She works with gouache or oil on canvas, with minimal brushstrokes or gestures.[1]

Evi Vingerling attended the Royal Academy of Art, where she earned her BFA in 2002. In 2005, she was a resident at Rijksacademie Amsterdam.
