LEMMINGS

[edit]

Lemmings are a very unusual kind of mammal. It is about 5 inches (13 centimeters) long. They live in the most northern parts of Canada, Scandinavia, Greenland, and Russia. In these places, the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius for most of the year.

The lemmings often change their fur colour to white because they don’t want to be seen by predators. Lemmings are herbivores as they feed on twigs, grasses, leaves, and bark as well as moss, berries, and even pine needles. Their claws often grow bigger during the winter as they need to dig through the snow to find food. Some people in Arctic have reported seeing lemmings using these powerful claws to dig through igloo ice!

There are also some years that are called lemming year. It happens every four years! At that time, the number of lemmings will grow more and more! But most of the lemmings will be eaten up by their predators. That leads to why lemming years happen every four years. And lastly, I would like to add that lemmings are very cute!

This will be the end of my report.
