Wolfgang K. Giloi (* 1 Oktober 1930 in Sobernheim; † 31. May 2009[1] in Berlin) was german computer scientists. He is most famous for research of computer architecture.

Life

In 1957 Wolfgang Giloi studied Electrical engineering in University of Stuttgart and received his degree there in 1960. After being employed as development engineer and manager of computer center at AEG-Telefunken, at 1965 he started to work as a professor at Technical University of Berlin and overtook the management institute of information processing (German: Instituts für Informationsverarbeitung). From 1971 to 1977 he was a Professor of Computer Science in the University of Minnesota and worked short-time in 1972 and 1974 also in the Saarland University in Saarbrücken.

After that, he returned to the Technical University of Berlin and in 1983 founded there research institute for computer architecture and sofware techlogogy (German: Forschungsinstitut für Rechnerarchitektur und Softwaretechnik, FIRST), and remained it's director until he became emeritus in 1996. Together with Ulrich Trottenberg war er maßgeblich an der Entwicklung des Parallelrechners SUPRENUM beteiligt.

Giloi war Träger des Bundesverdienstkreuzes 1. Klasse und Mitglied der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. 2003 wurde er Ehrendoktor der Technischen Universität Darmstadt.
