August 14, 2019: New Media[edit]

'New Media' is defined as forms of communication that includes mediums such as social media. It is a updated way in which information is spread. One specific example of new media is the use of the smartphone.

Benjamin, I think smartphones are a great example of new media! There are so many different ways to put content out on the internet. The smartphone is a great tool for doing that. Hthrxlynn (talk) 22:07, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

August 15, 2019: New Media[edit]

New Media is defined as new forms of products or services that deliver forms or entertainment or information.[1] Older forms of media would include radio, television, and newspapers.

One idea that helps shape what new media actually is comes from the idea of convergence. Convergence brings together things in social media that use to be separate, such as pictures and music. [2]

Another key aspect of new media is the idea of consumer participation contributing to change. Participation of one of the key ideas of new media that makes it different from older forms of media. [3]

Participation of consumers of new media have also led to modern phenomenon, such as the idea of remixing. This details using a oiuece of media and improving upon it, such as memes or works of art.[4]

I like that you mentioned the idea of convergence. I forgot to talk about that in my assignment, probably because I grew up in a world with social media. I remember creating the perfect playlist to add to my Tumblr account so everyone that went to my profile would know what awesome taste in music I had. Plus, Instagram now has it to where you can add music to anything! I'm still showing off my incredible music taste in new ways! Hthrxlynn (talk) 00:35, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
