Direct observation usually means that an observer records data while the butterfly is one stage of its migration. This can include:
- Historical accounts.[citation needed]
- flight vectors
- densities
- appearance in the northern breeding range
- appearance in overwintering sites
- wing condition
- sex
- size
- roosts
- butterfly counts (butterfly sightings/minute)
- emergence of host plants
- local frosts
- estimations of populations and densities
- wind direction
- cloud cover
- parasite loads
- latitude/longitude

This butterfly is relatively large and striking. It displays its forewings that have a broad iridescent blue band with a similarl blue patch on the hindwing. It is not abundant in Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. It has only be observed in dense forests. It can be approached while feeding on fermenting fallen fruits. Its flight period extends from May to September.[11] It obtains minerals using mud puddling behavior and seem to be prefer ammonium ions rather than sodium.[12]
It is sometimes collected and displayed as fine wall art.[13]

I am writing to tell you that you are one good friend that I've made here on Wikipedia. We both have learned and have been able to focus on improving the encyclopedia, along with getting through some difficult challenges. You learn things more quickly than any other editor that I have ever seen. You demonstrate enthusiasm for whatever project you get involved. You handle disagreements in a responsible way, humble and easily able to move on without getting discouraged. Nothing seems to stop you from editing! There are so many things to admire about your editing. Please keep up the good work - I notice the time and effort you put into your editing. You are a great example to me.
