Hitachi Energy Ltd is a global technology company headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. The company provides sustainable energy solutions to buildings, utilities, industries, and infrastructure sectors.[1] The company’s portfolio includes high-voltage equipment, transformers, grid integration and grid automation technologies, and services for renewable energy sectors.

The company is a subsidiary of multinational conglomerate, Hitachi Ltd, and was established in 2021 as Hitachi Energy Ltd. The company was formerly known as Hitachi ABB Power Grids, following a joint venture with Hitachi Ltd, and ABB Power Grids in 2020.

Founding and incorporation[edit]

In July 2020, ABB Power Grids divested 80.1 percent of its power grid business to Hitachi Ltd. The joint venture resulted in the formation of Hitachi ABB Power Grids.[2]

In October 2021, Hitachi ABB Power Grids formally started operating as Hitachi Energy. In December 2022, it was confirmed that Hitachi acquired the remaining 19.9 percent shares from ABB Ltd.[3]

Hitachi Energy has been using 100 percent renewable energy for its global operations since January 2022 and is furthermore aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030.[9]
