Elizabetha (Liza) Tsitrin is a M.Sc. candidate, artist, and photographer with broad interests in conservation biology of marine species.
Liza started her research career at Dalhousie University, where she studied vocalizations of a population of long-finned pilot whales found in the waters around Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. This was her introduction to fieldwork, which ignited her interests in bioacoustics, social ecology, and migration of cetaceans. Since then, her interests have expanded to include fish tracking using acoustic telemetry. Liza is currently a member of the Coastal Ecology Lab at Acadia University, where she uses high residency tags to monitor near-shore migration of Alewife (Alosa pseudoharengus) in Minas Basin, and assess the specie's interactions with tidal turbines. Her experience has involved participation in research on various different species, including acoustic tagging of American eels, Atlantic sturgeon, Atlantic salmon and Tomcod in Nova Scotia. She continues to foster her interest in marine mammals by keeping up to date on literature and attending marine mammalogy conferences.
In addition to research, Liza is dedicated to raising awareness for ocean conservation through her art. Under the alias of Blue Nautilus, she creates artworks that spark appreciation and respect towards nature, shed light on current environmental threats, and promote the stewardship of aquatic species and environments.
Liza is passionate about sharing her love and knowledge of the ocean with those around her. She has joined the Wikipedia community in order to help manage wiki article on marine species, with the goal of correcting, adding to, and maintaining these articles in order to provide accurate information to the readers. This will be her first exposure to editing on Wikipedia, and she is excited to contribute to public awareness about ocean topics.
