From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2016 CONCACAF Super Cup was a proposed annual football match organised by CONCACAF and contested by the reigning champions of the two main North American club competitions, the CONCACAF Champions League and the CONCACAF SuperLiga. It was the 2nd edition of the CONCACAF Super Cup. The match featured Costa Rican side Herediano, champions of the 2015–16 CONCACAF Champions League (there second straight win in that tournament), and Mexican side Toluca, champions of the 2015–16 CONCACAF SuperLiga.

Herediano, the defending champions, successfully defended their title, defeating Toluca 3–1 on aggregate.

These two clubs played again in the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League round of 16, with Toluca ending Herediano's two year run as Champions League and Super Cup champions.
