The goal of this exercise is to learn the basic guidelines and "philosophy" of Wikipedia.
Preparation

- Optional reading, but good to check out: WP:Notability, WP:Verifiability, WP:Neutral point of view.

- Imagine you and your friends invented a new card game this weekend. Can you write a Wikipedia article about it? If not, what is the reason you can't?
I couldn't write an article about it because it would ruin the surprise for everybody who wants to discover it for themselves.
- Not quite right. You can't write an article about a game you make up, but the reason has nothing to do with spoiling surprises. The reason has to do with whether or not the game is notable and whether it has been written about in reliable sources. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:24, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- A movie you have watched just got talked about in an article in a major anime magazine. Can you add some information from that into the movie's Wikipedia article? If not, what is the reason you can't?
I could add some information about the movie into the article because I don't see the problem with that.
- The question wasn't about whether you can add general "information about the movie," it was about whether you can add something about the magazine article you just read. (For example, maybe the magazine article gave the movie a positive review and said it had a unique plot—would you be able to edit the article to say something like "Anime Magazine praised this movie's plot?"). - Can you write an article about why one style of film is better than another style? If not, what is the reason you can't?
I couldn't write about how one style of film is better than the other because it would have to be backed up by my own experiences.
- You can't write an article like this, but for the exact opposite reason: you can't write things that are backed up only by your own experiences (that violates the original research policy). - When making footnotes for an article, can you use another Wikipedia article as one of the "sources" for your footnotes? (The answer to this question is in WP:Verifiability, not WP:NOT.)
- Can you make an article that is a list of major characters in an anime series, with descriptions of each character? If not, what is the reason you can't?
- What about an article that is a list of all characters in a single episode of an anime series?
- Imagine I just created an article that had nothing but the name of my company, "Rjanag's Pizzeria", and a link to my company's website. Which section of WP:NOT am I violating?
- Imagine I just created an article called "How to download music online", with instructions for how to find free mp3s. Which section of WP:NOT am I violating?
