Engagements with amateur and semiprofessional organisations such as the Seren Orchestra, the Corelli Choir and Orchestra, the Christchurch Choral Society and the Gwalia Male Voice Choir confirmed the wish to conduct professionally. In 1975 Brynmor Jones moved to Italy to join Mario Gusella's course for the diploma of Maestro di Direzione d'Orchestra. 1977 he co-formed the Berlin Arts Company specialising in the performance of contemporary chamber music and in 1978 was invited to conduct in the Berlin Sommerfestspiele - Kurt Weil's Requiem with members of the Deutsche Oper Orchester, Berlin. Thus began a period of conducting engagements and radio broadcasts with the Scharoun Ensemble, the Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, NDR Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Altenburg-Gera, East Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra, Szolnok, the Rhine Philharmonic and 3 days of recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Abbey Road Studios for the Master Musicians Cooperative Record Label.

In 1981 he became the Music Director of the Berlin Chamber Opera (Berliner Kammeroper) and took over the Artistic Direction in 1996. Over the course of the next 26 years Brynmor Jones and the stage director Henry Akina produced and directed over 60 new opera productions, principally in Berlin but also on European tour. The Berliner Kammeroper was responsible for Berlin, German or World first performances of primarily lesser known baroque operas on the one hand and contemporary works on the other - eg. the operas of Cavalli, Handel and Keiser, Peter Maxwell Davies and Hans Werner Henze.
