The Gang of Five were a faction of five justices on the Supreme Court of Canada known for delivering a series of major decisions throughout the 1990s that expanded the rights of the accused under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in criminal proceedings.[1] The faction was composed of justices Antonio Lamer, John Sopinka, Jack Major, Peter Cory, and Frank Iacobucci.[2]
