The Mood Manual is an American progressive rock band from Madison, Wisconsin, formed in 2008. The group's music is considered primarily Progressive rock[1] and has been described as "where metal meets neo in the prog garden"[2].

The Mood Manual has released one studio album and an EP. They are currently self-managed.

History[edit]

Formation (2008)[edit]

James Fabry, Andrew Giordano, and Matthew McHugh grew up and played music together through high school[2]. In 2008, they formed The Mood Manual with James Fabry on vocals and Carolyn Horst on saxophone.

New Vocalist (2012)[edit]

In fall 2012, The Mood Manual held auditions to add a lead vocalist. They selected Tyler Kundinger, a music student who was then attending Lawrence University. After a number of performances, the band started working on new material for an album and recorded three singles at VertuArts. In the summer of 2014, the group released the three singles for free download on Bandcamp.

Authentic Tensegrity (2014-Present)[edit]

The Mood Manual began recording their debut album at Moss Garden Studio in 2014; the recording and mixing were handled by Paul Vnuk. Drums for the album were recorded on August 8th and 9th[3]. Around the same time, the band announced a Kickstarter fundraiser to help fund the album[3]. Vocals were recorded in the fall of 2014. Cover art was designed by Carolyn Horst, which depicts a tensegrity model[4]. The Authentic Tensegrity album was released on May 3rd, 2015.
