Urgent interventions, including therapeutic irrigation and wound debridement, are often necessary to clean the area of injury and minimize the risk of infection[1]. Other risks of delayed intervention include long-term complications, such as deep infection, vascular compromise and complete limb loss[1].

Another important clinical decision during acute management of open fractures involves the effort to avoid preventable amputations, where functional salvage of the limb is clearly desirable.[citation needed] Care must be taken to ensure this decision is not solely based on an injury severity tool score, but rather a decision made following a full discussion of options between doctors and the patient, along with their family and care team.[1]

Thanks for sharing your proposed changes. I have a few notes:

  • Citations are placed immediately after the punctuation like this.1
  • Your second sentence ref looks like it is in right place.
  • Can you please include page #s for your text book, if available?
  • Try to use a citation after every sentence, even if you are reusing it. [citation needed] tag added above
  • Refer to people rather than patient's as per Wikipedia style guide

Great work far! Your class is doing very well. JenOttawa (talk) 17:33, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
