Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova (november 2024-)

Daniella Misail-Nichitin (born September 25th, 1976, Chișinău, Republic of Moldova) is an expert in the field of human rights and security in the Republic of Moldova. Since November 2024, she has held the position of Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. She is recognized for her contributions to domestic affairs, combating gender-based violence, protecting children's rights, and promoting gender equality.

Education

She has a degree in General Medicine, graduating from the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy „Nicolae Testemițanu” from Chisinau, between 1993 and 1999. Subsequently, he completed a residency in family medicine between 1999 and 2002. In parallel, she studied law at the Academy of Economic Studies from the Republic of Moldova, graduating from the Faculty of Law between 2002 and 2005. She also obtained master's degrees in Non-profit Organization Administration and in Advocacy and Social Change, both through the Alternative Professional Training Program of the Human Rights Resource Center of Moldova.[1]

Professional Career

Her career began in 2001, when she joined the International Center "La Strada" in the Republic of Moldova, a non-governmental organization dedicated to combating gender-based violence and human trafficking. She held various leadership positions within this organization, including Resource Center Coordinator (2001-2004), Vice President (2004-2012), and President (2012-2015).[1]

During her time at La Strada, Daniella Misail-Nichitin led strategic projects related to research, awareness campaigns, capacity building and promotion of the National Law of the Republic of Moldova on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. She represented "La Strada" in the Inter-ministerial Coordination Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition "Life without Violence".[2] In 2019, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau nominated Ms. Misail-Nichitin for the International Women of Courage Award.

In September 2021, Daniella Misail-Nichitin joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, holding the position of Head of the Minister's Cabinet. Since January 2022, she has served as State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In November 2024, she was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs.[3]

Notable Contributions

Daniella Misail-Nichitin is the author of the independent ex-post evaluation of the implementation of the National Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Human Beings for the period 2010-2011 and 2012-2013. She also coordinated the research team for the study “Ensuring access of victims of sexual violence to adequate legal and social protection” in 2015.[4]

She has participated in international training programs organized by institutions such as University of Oxford, the World Bank, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the International Center for Migration Policy Development, in countries such as the United States, Israel, Hungary, and the United Kingdom.[5].
