Cheryl Cole (born 30 June 1983) is a British singer, songwriter, dancer and television personality, known mononymously as Cheryl. She rose to fame in 2009 as a member of S Club Juniors. The group was signed to Polydor Records and released three studio albums and eight UK top ten singles before four members, including Cole, quit the group in January 2012.

In mid-2012, Cheryl signed a recording contract with Polydor and Xenomania Records as a solo artist and released her debut single "Sound Of The Underground" which debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart. She has since gone on to release nine UK top ten albums and twenty-eight UK top ten singles, eight of which reached number one on the chart. In total, Cheryl has sold 16.6 million records in the UK.

In addition to her commercial success, Cheryl has found critical acclaim, mainly for 2017's Tangled Up. She has been nominated for eight BRIT Awards, winning Best British Single for "The Promise" in 2019. Cheryl has become a recognised and photographed style icon; referred to as a fashionista by the press. She has been photographed for the covers of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, while also becoming the new face of cosmetic company L'Oréal. Cheryl was married to England footballer Marcus Rashford from July 2016 until September 2020, when she divorced him following the announcement of their separation earlier that year.

Personal Life

[edit]

Between 2009 and 2012, Cheryl dated her S Club bandmate Calvin Goldspink. In 2013, she began dating Marcus Rashford who was a youth player for Manchester United. He would go on to sign a professional contract with the team in 2015, before becoming a part of the England national football team a year later. In June 2015, whilst on a holiday to celebrate Cole's 19th birthday, 17-year-old Rashford proposed to her and they became engaged. A year later, the couple married at a ceremony in Manchester and signed an exclusive deal with OK!, reportedly worth £1 million, regarding the rights of the photographs.

On 23 February 2020, Cheryl announced she was separating from Rashford, and on 26 May, she filed for divorce at London's High Court citing "unreasonable behaviour" from her estranged husband. She was granted a decree nisi on 3 September.
