Paul Frazer (6th Feb 1983) known by his professional pseudonym, SPACE, is a British recording artist, composer, audio engineer, record producer, audio mixer and songwriter.

SPACE’s list of projects include work with IDLES, Never Not Nothing,[1] The Prodigy, Do Nothing and Jamie Lenman as well as the score for 2020 film, The Owners.[2][3]

Early career

[edit]

Frazer began his career as a session guitarist and then went onto form the live dance, electronic collective, Subsource[4]. Subsources’s sound is a fusion of Dubstep and punk/metal[5] with lyrics focused around social commentary[6]. In 2012, the band released a documentary, ‘Subsource: A Dubumentary’, following the bands’ journey over 18 months[7].

The Mutants

[edit]

After Subsource, Frazer formed punk-rock band, The Mutants[8], alongside Chris Constantinou and Rat Scabies. The band released three albums, Rhythm and Punk Review[9][10], Tokyo Nights[11][12] and Your Desert My Mind[13][14] which all featured a myriad of all-star musicians from bands such as The Specials and The Damned. “Bamboo Moon” from Tokyo Nights was featured on an episode of Netflix’s Money Heist.

Never Not Nothing (Formerly Black Futures)

[edit]

In 2015, Paul joined forces with good friend Vinny Welch[15][16] and started Never Not Nothing[17][18][19][20], releasing their first single, Love[21], later that year. [NNN] signed to Sony label, Music For Nations after a secret, immersive gig where the audience were kidnapped, blindfolded and taken to a secret location[22]. The band have had numerous guest musicians feature on their songs, including Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream)[23][24]

Never Not Nothing’s first album, Never Not Nothing[25][26] was released in 2019[27] [28]with a follow-up EP, Art Ritual, released in 2020[29]. The band have toured extensively with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, as well as headlining tours in the UK and around the world.

Work with Other Musicians

[edit]

After being told to go and see them play on a small stage at Lovebox Festival in 2013, Paul started working with IDLES and was instrumental in the development of the bands’ sound. He produced and mixed their first two EP’s, Meat and Meta, their demo tape, Meat//Anguish and their first album Brutalism. He also produced their second album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance as well as contributing to the writing of certain tracks throughout the bands’ career.[30]

Other artists that Paul has written with and/or produced for include The Prodigy, Jamie Lenman, Talk Show, Libra Libra, Do Nothing, Sick Joy and Shelf Lives. Paul has also remixed a Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes track under the Never Not Nothing brand[31].

Music for Film and TV

[edit]

Universal Production Music

Paul has made 13 albums of high-end library music for Universal Production Music and was listed on their list of Featured Composers. When making these albums, Paul travelled to a range of different destinations including Tokyo, Chernobyl, New Orleans and Nepal. He worked with musicians in situ, developing his composition style and sampling the unique sounds of the area he was in. Hundreds of these songs have been used on various TV and films across multiple channels including the BBC and Netflix.

The Owners

Paul was the composer, producer and engineer for the Film Score for the feature film, The Owners, starring Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams.
