The murder of Carlos Palomino occurred in Madrid, Spain on 11 November 2007. The legal case found that Josué Estébanez de la Hija was guilty of killing Palomino with ideological motivations, and Estébanez was sentenced to 26 years in prison.

Facts of the Case[edit]

On the morning of November 11, 2007, a demonstration against immigration was convened in a neighborhood with a significant immigrant population by the far-right National Democracy party. According to the judicial summary, Josué Estébanez ( Galdacano , 1984), a professional soldier, was going to participate in the demonstration, a fact that he denied. Antifascist and leftist groups had called a counter-demonstration in the same place to show their opposition to the presence of the National Democracy party.

Footage from metro surveillance cameras shows that at platform 3 of Legazpi Station, dozens of antifascist youngsters entered a subway car to go to participate in the counter-demonstration. Josué Estébanez was also in that car. Once Estébanez noticed the young men, he took out a pocketknife with a 25 cm blade from his pocket and hid it open behind his back. Estébanez was wearing a sweatshirt with the a "Three Stroke" branded sweatshirt, often associated with neo- Nazi skinhead symbology. One of the young people who got on the train noticed that Estébanez was carrying the knife, but Carlos Palomino, upon entering the car, did not realize it and confronted Estébanez about the sweatshirt. At that time, Estébanez stabbed Palomino in the left side of his chest, which affected his heart and would later cause his death. On the morning of November 11, 2007, a demonstration against  immigration was convened by the far-right National Democracy party Government Delegation of  Madrid After the fact, which caused the flight of all the passengers of the train, other young people and a security guard tried to stop Josué Estébanez, without succeeding. In the struggle, Josué stabbed another young man, who was seriously injured, and caused a third finger to be cut on his finger. Josué Estébanez fled abroad, got rid of the gun and was intercepted by thirty of Palomino's companions, who beat him. He was finally arrested by a municipal police patrol. [ That same night he was detained in Soto del Real and then transferred to Alcalá Mecoawaiting trial. On the morning of November 11, 2007, a demonstration against immigration was convened by the far-right National Democracy party , in a neighborhood with a significant immigrant presence, which had been communicated to the Government Delegation of Madrid .

Carlos Palomino died minutes after the stabbing in an improvised sanitary tent on the Paseo de Delicias in Madrid.

Carlos Javier Palomino Muñoz, an anti-fascist, was murdered in Madrid, Spain on 11 November 2007. He, aged 16, was campaigning to counter against a fascist rally. The murder occurred at Legazpi Station, where he was stabbed to death.[1]

Josué Estébanez de la Hija, the murderer, is a neo-Nazi who originated from the Basque Country and was a soldier. He received a 23-year prison sentence.[2]

Neo-Nazis in other countries honored Estébanez's name, including the perpetrator of the Christchurch mosque shootings, Brenton Tarrant.[2]
