Antoine Predock (born 1936 in Lebanon, Missouri) is an American architect based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Antoine Predock is the Principal of Antoine Predock Architect PC. The studio was established in 1967. Predock attended the University of New Mexico and later received his Bachelor of Architecture from Columbia University.

Predock first gained national attention with the La Luz community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Nelson Fine Arts Center at Arizona State University was his first nationally won design competition. Predock's work includes the Turtle Creek House, built in 1993 for bird enthusiasts along a prehistoric trail in Texas, the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College, and a new ballpark for the San Diego Padres. He has also worked on international sites such as the National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Southern Taiwan and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In 1985, Antoine Predock was awarded the Rome Prize. In 1989, he won a New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. In 2006, he won the AIA Gold Medal. In 2007, Predock was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. In 2010, Predock was named a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council.

Predock's design has been highly influenced by his connection to New Mexico.

Biography

Early Life

Antoine Predock was born on June 24, 1936 in Lebanon, Missouri; although, if you ask him he'll tell you that he is from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Predock was raised by an engineer and a liberal arts major. One of which read him poetry before bed and taught him “La Marseillaise,” the French national anthem; the other who guided Predock's interests to be those of a pragmatic engineer.

When he came of age, Predock attended the University of New Mexico, and following in the footsteps of his father he began striving towards a degree in engineering . Although he was a successful and academically inclined student, Predock expressed little fulfillment in his studies. Upon the completion of a technical drawing course taught by Don Schlegel, an architecture professor at the university, Predock’s entire career trajectory became unhinged. After taking a short hiatus from academic life, Predock returned to The University of New Mexico at age 21 to pursue the study of architecture. Schlegel continued to influence the fledgling architect, and acted as an advisor to Predock throughout his time at the University of New Mexico. At one point, Schlegel advised Predock that he had reaped all that the university had to offer, and then encouraged him to apply elsewhere. Predock was accepted to the University of Colombia, where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Architecture.

Early Career

In 1967 Antoine Predock established his first office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Currently, Predock and his team maintain spaces in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Los Angeles, California, and Taipei, Taiwan.

Antoine Predock and his teach have planned, developed, and collaborated on over 100 buildings and projects. They have been featured in over 60 exhibitions, 250 books, and over 1,000 publications.
