Anthony King is a clinical psychologist and a research neuroscientist in the University of Michigan Health System, as well as an assistant professor in the department of Psychiatry. He is also director of the Michigan Laboratory for Mindfulness and Compassion in Psychotherapy.

Clinical interests[edit source]
[edit]King's clinical and research interests include: Post-traumatic Stress Disorder in civilians and military veterans, neurobiology of PTSD, anxiety, and depression, Mindfulness-based interventions, exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral analytic system of psychotherapy, and neural mechanisms of psychotherapy.

[edit]King earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular and Integrative Physiology from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1996, a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at Rutgers University in 2002, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology in 2015. He served his postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at The University of Michigan Psychological Clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from 2016-2018, and an additional year of training as a clinical lecturer at The University of Michigan Psychiatry Anxiety Disorders program from 2018-2019.

[edit]In 2019 King was appointed assistant professor of psychiatry at The University of Michigan. He is the director of the his laboratory, the Michigan Laboratory for Mindfulness and Compassion in Psychotherapy He currently works at the University of Michigan Health System's Psychiatry Anxiety Disorders program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he leads the Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy program and conducts clinical and neurobiological research on Mindfulness-based Interventions for PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain, and COVID-stress supported by the National Institutes for Health, the National Institute of Mental Health, and National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

[edit]King has studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation practices with several Asian Buddhist teachers. From 1982-1985 he studied with Korean Zen (Soen) teacher Samu Sunim as a residential "lay monastic" at Zen Buddhist Temple in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since 1988 King has been a student of the (late) Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche (Dorje Chang), a well-respected Tibetan Buddhist teacher also known by his title Nyakre Khentrul Tulku Rinpoche of Drepung Loseling mononastic university of Tibet.
