The Second Coalescence War (animated series)

[edit]

The Second Coalescence War (often abbreviated to TSCW) is 2023 Australian animated series written and directed by APS Animation. It was originally released on July 30, 2023, on YouTube. It features anthropomorphic animals in a fictional world war during the year 1902. All countries, empires, states, etc. featured in The Second Coalescence War are fictional.

Plot

[edit]

Background

[edit]

In the year 1886 a world war comes to end, with the defeated nation, Vhirmos, a country of the fictional empire The Coalescence, lending claimed land to Sorvelle, another fictional country of another fictional empire named The Western Union (referred to such in the series), as war reparations.

Ruben P. Stone, A Vhirmon politician and Vhirmos's future president, is in outrage of this loss and believes that the land of Sorvelle belongs to Vhirmos. In a vote in 1900, Ruben is voted in to become president of Vhirmos. Ruben uses this power to transform Vhirmos from a mixed-economy to a socialist economy, and Ruben becomes a dictator to protect his position.

In 1900, Ruben launches an attack to Sorvelle to gain the land back, but Sorvelle is "backed-up" by another country, being Tiero (which belongs to The Western Union). As a result, Vhirmos also attacks Tiero, but Tiero attacks back and defends itself. The attacks that were reflected onto Vhirmos lead to another country of The Coalescence to become involved, that being Gernov. Gernov, which suffered much less from the aftermath of the previous war, launched numerous attacks onto both Sorvelle and Tiero, both of which caused heavy damage to rural areas. This form of conflict eventually led into a chain-reaction of numerous countries from both empires becoming involved in the war, hence beginning The Second Coalescence War (called such due to the start of the war originating from The Coalescence empire).

Plots

[edit]

The characters of The Second Coalescence War are introduced to the series near the end of the war, being the year 1902 (the year the war ends). The characters are given separate plots and stories during the course of the war and it showcases each character's role and life during either side of the war.

  • "Ringing Bells" – Set in Sorvelle from the perspective of a Sorvellian former housewife who becomes a telephone operator as a result of the war.
  • "Hell on Rails" – Set near the frontline of the war from the perspective of a Tieran soldier who is apart of an armored-train infiltration campaign, where the armored-trains pose a large threat to the Western Unions means of railway use.
  • "Mobile Death" – Set in numerous locations of the war from the perspective of a Vhirmon inventor who invents a vehicle reminiscent of that of a tank.
  • "Sabotaged" – Set in Sorvelle from the perspective of a Gernovian Soldier who was originally partaking in an offensive involving a train, but was sabotaged in "Hell on Rails". The soldiers of this train now need to move by foot to carry out the offensive.

Controversies

[edit]

The Second Coalescence War, being set in 1902, created some confusion and controversies in some aspects of historical accuracy, despite being set in an alternate universe. Most sources state that the technology featured in The Second Coalescence War are too advance for the time period the series is set in.

Vehicles and Technology

[edit]

The vehicles of The Second Coalescence War are controversial, with some sources stating that the technology and designs are too advance for their time period, and some other sources arguing that the designs have a reasonable explanation. An example of this debate surrounds the "Mugeladtzen" tank, a tank with a similar appearance to the Saint-Chamond tank. It would be almost fifteen years later that the Saint-Chamond would be built in relation to The Second Coalescence War's timeline, set in 1902.

Unlike the real-world counterparts, the tanks featured in The Second Coalescence War are used as mobile artillery, rather than being used to cut through barbed-wire and cross trenches. Weapons such as machine guns and cannons are often featured on the sides or rear of the tank designs, with the explanation being (from The Second Coalescence War | Behind the war (2023)):

The Mugeladtzen has an elongated body with a 200mm cannon protruding out the front with small tracks, similar to that of the Saint-Chamond Tank.
The Mugeladtzen Tank featured in The Second Coalescence War. It has an elongated body, a 200mm cannon as the main armament, and short tracks. It has a similar design to that of the Saint-Chamond.

These tanks, or rather armored artillery units, are used to quickly move heavy firepower around the battlefield, destroying any fortifications of any kind, including field gun posts. Due to their nature of engaging in long-range attacks, they are not well suited in protecting themselves, and so some protection has been provided, varying between machine-guns to cannons. These tanks will move closely with infantry, but will "fortify" themselves on positions hard to attack, such as hills or through forest.
