Christopher Colgan is an American citizen currently living in West Hempstead, New York. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where he worked at WSOU under the name Chris the Mad Scientist. He is an aspiring writer and music reviewer, currently active on the websites PopMatters and Metal Insider.

Pre-College Life[edit]

Youth and Elementary School (1986-1997)[edit]

Chris was born on May 18th, 1986 at 11:17 PM, at Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island, to his parents Robert Colgan and Vivian Julier. He has one sibling, his older sister Emily. The family all resided in North Kingstown, RI.

Chris began schooling at Fishing Cove School for kindergarten, and then attended Forest Park Elementary School in North Kingstown for four years. From 1992 to 1994, he participated in youth baseball and basketball as part of the North Kingstown Department of Recreation. In 1994, he also began lessons in kenpo karate and martial arts at Don Culp's Karate Studio.

In January 1996, Chris transferred from Forest Park Elementary to Cranston-Johnston Catholic Regional School (also known as CJCR) in Cranston. While at CJCR, he sang in the chorus and took part in the D.A.R.E. program.

Middle School (1997-2000)[edit]

Chris attended CJCR until June 1998, when he completed sixth grade. During the 1997-1998 school year, he participated in the Chess Club and briefly took saxophone lessons.

In September 1998, Chris enrolled in St. Kevin's School in Warwick, RI. He remained there for the remainder of middle school. During the spring of 2000, he took the entrance exam for Bishop Hendricken High School and was accepted.

High School (2000-2004)[edit]

In August 2000, Chris enrolled at Bishop Hendricken. He took a rigorous course load for his entire career there, including many honors-level and AP-level courses. Chris took the SAT twice and received a cumulative score of 1420 under the 2002 scoring system (770 verbal, 650 math).

In November 2003, Chris applied to Seton Hall University, and received his acceptance letter in February 2004. Chris was also accepted into Saint Anselm College and conditionally accepted into Michigan State University, pending acceptance into a Lyman Briggs College science program. Chris chose Seton Hall after receiving a substantial financial aid package from the school, including two separate scholarships.
