The Murder of Frank Miller
Otto Franklin Miller (May 29, 1905-April 7, 1926) was the twenty-year-old son of James William Miller and Delia Hensley. He was currently operating a filling station in Woodville,Oklahoma, Midway Filling, when he was fatally shot and killed by officer, Albert Lary. On the night of the murder, Miller had returned from taking two female friends, Sinie Larry and Miss Murr, on a car ride. Officer Lary approached Mr. Miller at the filling station (which was also Mr. Miller's home) and inquired about his daughter, Sinie. She was not at the house, and was wondering if Frank knew of her whereabouts. According to Officer Lary's testimony, Mr. Miller became "insulted" by the questioning, and began throwing rocks, or gravel, at him. Officer Lary then admitted to firing a single shot, "in necessary self-defense."[1]
Frank's body was taken back to his birthplace of, Cannon, TX., and buried in the Miller Family Plot at, Cannon Cemetery. Services were held by, Rev. Cleo Chumley of, Kentucky Town, TX. Mr. Miller's young cousins were all pallbearers: Haskell McCarley, Olin Alexander, Autrey Dickens, Lee Burk, Corris Burk, and Bill Miller. He was survived by his parents, a younger brother (Hugh Miller) and two sisters (Irene and Elinor Miller). [2] [3]
