FutureRP is a browser-based MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) with a science fiction themed persistent world. FutureRP is free to play, though also offers paid monthly subscription for several in-game advantages[1].

FutureRP is set in a dystopian future, at a time of lawlessness and interstellar conflict. Various races conspire to achieve dominance over key star systems, through an amalgam political espionage and warfare. Players must choose their preferred race, taking on its distinctive skills and traits.

Gameplay[edit]

FutureRP is a game based upon exploration, combat, and guild rivalry. Players aim to develop the most powerful, wealthy, and accomplished character amongst their peers.

Experience is gained via successful attacks, completed quests, and guild raids. Once a sufficient amount of experience has been gained, a character will gain an additional level, imbibing them with additional strength and abilities[2].

Combat may be performed between players, or against computer-controlled enemies. A growing number of rich and diverse environments are available, each with its own places to explore and enemies to fight[3].

All available worlds and places to explore are accessable from a single listing[4], akin to the server list of a typical multiplayer FPS. Players may visit and explore an eclectic array of settings, with unique quests to complete, weaponry to acquire, and characters to speak to.

World Builder[edit]

As of December 2010[5], FutureRP has given paying players the power to create custom content, in the form of a built-in feature called the World Builder. Thus far, the options include:

  • Custom maps and tilesets, navigable as normal, with support for doorways with level requirements, passwords; portals; levers; and various other actions.
  • Equipment and supplies, comparable in effects to official items.
  • Quests, which appear in quest logs alongside official quests.
  • NPCs (Non-Person Characters) and raidable bosses, with configurable attributes and scripts to enable interactivity.
