Georgette Sand is a French feminist collective. The group is named after "George Sand", the genderbending pen name of 19th century French author Aurore Dupin.[1] In 2015, the group led a campaign to remove the French tampon tax, in which feminine hygiene products are taxed as non-essential goods under sales tax code.[2][3] By the end of the year, they won a reduction in the value added tax from 20% to 5.5%.[4] The group also led a campaign against companies that charged more for goods branded towards women, also known as the "pink tax" or—as Georgette Sand called it—a "women tax".[5][6] The campaign spread quickly through France.[7] The group also runs a blog that collects examples of the price differences.[1]
