Prototype Scrapboy test article

Scrapboy is social software that serves as a desktop utility for social networking. It also serves as a desktop instant messaging client for Facebook Chat. The software offers several advanced features for top social networking sites and allows users to manage and receive social network content from their desktop. Scrapboy is free software and requires no registration to use.

Version 1.0 of Scrapboy was first launched on May 26, 2006, developed by Scrapboy Digital Media Corporation. The program is coded in C#.

Chat

(Exclusive for Facebook) Coined by the company as ‘Desktop FaceChat’ Scrapboy’s most developed feature is its instant messaging client for Facebook. The program adds functionality like pop-up notifications, easily accessible emoticons, chat history, HTML support and a way to search through friends in real time.

One Window browsing

Scrapboy allows for users to view the content of another user’s profile from one window. The user may write and view [posts] (or “comments” and “scraps”, for MySpace and Orkut respectively), browse photos, and chat from a single window.

Event Organizer

(Exclusive for Facebook) Scrapboy possesses an event organizer that automatically collects and organizes a user’s events, including the birthdays of all the user’s friends. The program also allows the user to set timed reminders for him or herself.

Update Customization

Scrapboy allows the user to subscribe to the content of a friend so that the user receives pop-up notifications about their friends’ wall post and photo updates on his or her desktop. In addition, users also receive notifications of various personal updates such as newly tagged photos, new wall posts, new messages, pokes and event and group invitations.
