Background

[edit]

I have a master's degree in ancient history and am a teacher. As of the end of 2016, I'm putting a little more effort into editing Wikipedia articles, usually on a relatively small scale. In addition to studying ancient history, I can read Latin and ancient Greek, and I do tolerably well at reading modern Greek, French, and Italian.

Interests

[edit]

I have an interest in a variety of subjects that may lead me to research, edit, or create pages on Wikipedia. I am academically probably most qualified to write about ancient history and literature, particularly Greek and Roman. But the research skills I learned as a graduate student have come in handy in other pursuits, so I may put them to use here on Wikipedia. Here are some things I am interested in:

  • Greek and Roman history, historiography, literature, and archaeology
  • Genealogy - I have been researching my family's origins in Italy and their history in the United States. Recently I have been expanding the article on the southern Italian comune of Carosino, whence some relatives emigrated in the early 20th century.
  • Military history - for instance, I greatly expanded a section of the Battle of Derna. This was one of my first contributions on Wikipedia! I also added minor biographical details to the early article on James Mattis.
  • Local Philadelphia history - so far I have added a bit to the article on Robert Adams, Jr., a Philadelphia politician. I'm sure I'll add more as I'm able.
