Francesco Lomanto (born 2 March 1962) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He has been serving as the Archbishop of Siracusa since his installation on 9 September 2017.

Biography[edit]

He was born in Mussomeli in the diocese of Caltanissetta on 2 March 1962.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1986 by the bishop of Caltanissetta Alfredo Maria Garsia. From 1986 to 1996 he was parish vicar in the Mother Church of Villalba and from 1996 to 2011 he was parish priest of the parish of St. Henry in Mussomeli.

On 24 July 2020, Pope Francis appointed him metropolitan archbishop of Siracusa[1], succeeding Salvatore Pappalardo, who resigned due to age limits.

He was consacrated a bishop on 24 October 2020 at the basilica sanctuary Madonna delle Lacrime in Syracuse by the bishop of Caltanissetta Mario Russotto, co-consecrators Salvatore Pappalardo, his predecessor, and installed there.

Motto[edit]

His motto, written in Latin, is "Sanctificati in veritate", that is "consecrated in truth" and is taken from the Gospel of John, chapter 17, verse 19.
