Some questions I have for all of you Wikipedians

RinderkennzeichnungsundRindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz

Questions from this end of the Universe

For anyone to answer

Q: Why does man need the satisfaction of knowing that there is a higher being? Why do men spend their whole lives searching? Does man need the satisfaction of knowing that there is a higher being? And why do we ask the impossible question? And if we could find out, what would it change?

Q: Why do women fight for their rights, and then they expect us to treat them special. I thought that they wanted to be treated as equals?

Who is Mike Jones Steven Seagal?

Who is Steven Seagal? -Damien Vryce 19:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

yo -- s.s. is many things, to many people. first and foarmost, tho, he is a ice-cold killer. RECOGNIZE. --Ghetteaux 20:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Ok, so he's an ice cold killer.....what does that even mean? could you explain a LOT better as to who he is? --Damien Vryce 16:16, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
cheque it -- yore best bet is 2 reed this page: Steven Seagal. start there, but then also realize this: beyond what we can ever know, s.s. is a complicated, misunderstood icon. tuff guy, spiritualist, or cinderblock-turned-actor? the only thing we can agree on is the man requires further and increasingly serious study. i hoap 2 hold a symposium before 2010 on the man and his impactz. --Ghetteaux 16:25, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Whoa man, that's deep. --Damien Vryce 16:26, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
I try 2 keap it deap, homie. --Ghetteaux 17:13, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

shut up

per the southerner 17:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Seagaliana

So, you say that they took this off of the page right? Well then what was the reason? And also, why don't you just add it back? I don't see how it is a bad thing to have on the page if you just make it a teenie bit smaller.-Damien Vryce 19:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

see, i tried 2 add this contribution, but they deemed it wack. it was Category:Seagaliana, and they thought seagal didn't rate a category. they are player haters, obviously. RECOGNIZE. --Ghetteaux 17:31, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, the admins are wack. I don't agree on how this site has so many with no higherarchy(SP?). Keep trying man. --Damien Vryce 17:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Mods

If by mods you mean administrators, remember we're just volunteers. There are hundreds of thousands of articles on Wikipedia and to only have 100 or so people trying to help out with disputes, deleting bad articles, etc. ... the whole thing would just fall apart. 23skidoo 22:35, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

For information on how to become an admin, please see Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship. The short answer is another admin nominates you and if you accept the nomination it goes to a vote. Get enough supporting votes and you become an admin. 23skidoo 18:13, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations

Wow!!That User Page is awesome. I like your gallery and "your hero" link too. Welcome to Wikipedia. Hope to hear/see some such great edits on articles, like you did on your main page. Did you enjoyed the Snoop wikientry as a whole? I worked a lot on it, and would like to receive some feedback (whether it's positive or not). Cheers. Lajbi 19:47, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Crunk!!! has been proposed for deletion. Please see the article for details. NickelShoe 01:59, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Help

I need help. It says that I have been blocked for vandalism. I haven't vandalized anything. I am on a public sever so the IP address is the same for all on the network. Could you please unblock this IP address? Thank you. It says my IP is 69.155.178.3

I will let an admin know about it. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 18:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks man.

Hallo

Was sind Deine Interessen?
Gilliamjf 19:59, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Aber was Wörterbuch? -Damien Vryce 16:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Warst Du schon in D? Gilliamjf 17:21, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Was Sie bedeuten ,,Warst Du schon in D" ? -Damien Vryce 17:33, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Ob Du schon in Deutschland warst. D ist die Abkürzung beim SMS-Schreiben. Ich studierte 2 Jahre in Germany, Stuttgart und Düsseldorf. Aber in Texas war ich noch nie. Gilliamjf 20:30, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Ja, ich habe diese Wörterbuch. Es ist gut, aber kleine. -Damien Vryce 16:13, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Hallo Damien

Guten Tag. Danke fuer Deine Begruessung. Ciao.

Snappy

I am Snappy, the little crocodile. I come from Egypt, located at the Nile. At first, inside an egg I lay, then I snip-snap-snapped me out one day.

I am Snappy, the little crocodile, I have so many sharp teeth in my smile. I snap up everything I smell, I snap because I can so well.

I am Snappy, the little crocodile, I like snapping – I play it all the while. For my Mom, I’ll set a little trap, and then she’ll see how well that I can snap.

I am Snappy, the little crocodile, I could go on snapping for a while. I nip Dad's leg to make him leap, and then I simply go to sleep. [[User:Damien Vryce|Damien]Vryce

Vandalism

The IP address User:69.155.178.3 is a school IP address, and that means that several hundered students access the web each day and I find it unfair and unproductive to keep blocking this IP. If I could please ask you, could you not block this IP in the future? Or, if at all possible (as I don't know the limits of the security controls on Wiki) could you only block editing while not signed in on this IP address? That in itself would solve most, if not all, problems. Thanks, -Damien Vryce 18:40, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I can't block, you'd be better off leaving a note on the IP's talk, or on the blocking admin's talk. Blocking only anon edits on an IP is a good idea, I'll go ask the devs if it would be possible to implement that. --Rory096 18:46, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Btw, blocking admin is User:Vsmith for a period of 3 hours. --Rory096 18:46, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
The devs are already considering this. See here. --Rory096 18:54, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Right, well I had seen your name on the page as a sig so I just went to you. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! -User:Damien Vryce 18:55, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
No problem :) --Rory096 18:56, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and also see the Wikipedia:Blocking_policy_proposal, proposing this change. --Rory096 03:49, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Sig

OK, what you need to do is this: [[User:Damien Vryce|<span style="color:green;">Damien</span>]][[User talk:Damien Vryce|<span style="color:blue;">Vryce</span>]], which will come out as DamienVryce. --Rory096 05:43, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks man, I think I forgot one of the brackets. - DamienVryce - Word

Speedy request

What's this placing of a speedy deletion tag on another user's page all about? You seem to be an established, decent user so it's presumably not a trick. There's absolutely no reason to delete any user page whether the person is coming back or not, unless it contains something which breaks a law or there is some personal info revealed which the user didn't want revealed. --kingboyk 21:21, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I added it because it was his wish. I already took the liberty of deleting the personal information on his user page. I was just following through with his wishes. I don't see any problem with deleting the page though. -- DamienVryce - Word 15:01, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi! Probably best to just blank it, with a note to that affect? I wouldn't be willing to delete a user page other than that at the user's request (or if there were legal problems), although I can see from prior exchanges you're a friend of his and not some crazy vandal :) --kingboyk 17:28, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Good job mate! I hope you weren't offended by my original message, but one sees some strange stuff when on speedy deletion duty. I imagine you'll find that out for yourself soon enough :) Happy editing. --kingboyk 17:55, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Damien Vryce/Usertalk/archives, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Fetofs Hello! 21:58, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Blocked, again.

Yes, wonderful. I am blocked again due to some moron at my school(my IP (69.155.178.3) was blocked that is). What can I do about that!? Wikipedia needs to hurry up and implement the block to public IP's and just allow logged in users to edit. Could someone unblock me or direct User:Vsmith this direction, as I believe it to be his blocking action.-- Damien Vryce

Please do not use the helpme tag for unblock requests, it is for general editing help. I have taken a look and since the block was only enacted 10 minutes ago can I ask you to wait for another 20 minutes, so that the vandal might have moved on. Thanks. --pgk(talk) 16:38, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

OK - unblocked for now. The school eeds to control the vandals, or suffer another block. Vsmith 16:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks-- Damien Vryce

Re: Vandalism to Kelly Knatchbull page

Hi there. Recently, I have noticed that you have been having to make changes on this page after a user was vandalising it. Just to let you know, it was not me but some joking fellow pupils of mine. Kelly Knatchbull is a personal friend of mine. She does go to Sevenoaks School, so do I, you can check on the school website via Google. My name is Jonathan Recaldin and she kind of charged me with looking after the page as she knows I am a member of the Wiki community. By the way, she actually finds the joke about her boyfriend, Jamie, quite funny and has requested to keep it in for her amusment. She also finds it quite saddening that her page may be up for deletion and asks if the wiki community could help her on this.

I would be grateful if you could help me on this and please send a message to me on the talk page or to my e-mail - QwentyJ1@hotmail.com. Thank you for your time, Jonathan Recaldin.

P.S. Are you a sort of moderator? Is that why you were reverting text on the page in question? --This unsigned comment was made by User:QwentyJ

Wikipedia is not an online blog community. It is a free online community that drives to offer free knowledge to all people. This does not include people's fancies about their boyfriends and/or girlfriends. Furthermore, if it were not I that reverted it, someone else would. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and happy editing. -- Damien Vryce
Oh, P.S. Your page is up for deletion now. Try and add only valid articles to wikipedia. Thanks. -- Damien Vryce
  • Ok, granted about the humorous bit. However, I did not start the page, I'm merely looking after, although, not doing a great job am I!?

Secondly, I don't understand why it is up for removal. As far as I am concerned, its a lot more relevant than some of the articles I have seen on Wikipedia. I suppose thats the danger. Secondly, it has to be relevant. How many people can say they are related to the last Tsarina and are 469th in line to the British throne? Neither you or me my friend!

Keep up the good work, Jonathan Recaldin. -This unsigned comment was made by QwencyJ

It does not matter who started the page. You are in no way being punished. As for it's relevancy, you have no proof of the claims you make. You are entitled to your own opinion and I urge you to express them. Keep editing. -- Damien Vryce
P.S. You have two 'secondly' interjections in the above comment. -- Damien Vryce
