Kids Union Butterfly is a Russian musical theater in Toronto, Canada. It was founded in 2006 by Oksana Orlova for Russian immigrants in Toronto. Union is for children from three years old to fifteen. Throughout the years theater's main goal is to help children learn and maintain their Russian routes and language. The theater is known for its premieres: Wolf and Seven Kids, Marry Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, Flying Sheep and many others.
History
[edit]Kids Union Butterfly was formed in 2006 by a group of young children, who got together to prepare a concert for a festival. First presentation was for a Canadian concert in June 2006. The theater showed Russian culture and traditional folk songs. After, the second performance appeared in Russian Carousel. The first premiere was Wolf and Seven Kids on York Woods Library stage. Many actors changed throughout the years, others supported and became as one troupe.
Plays
[edit]Wolf and Seven Kids was a first premiere of the theater. Oksana Orlova was a director of the play and Darina Leleka was a choreographer. The troupe consisted of ten people, and eight of them were children. This play is coming out each year and is very popular in Toronto. Throughout the years the plot, decorations, characters and actors changed and the play became theater's face.
Winnie the Pooh was played couple of times by the theater with different troupes. The premiere was in 2008, and the following concert was in 2010.
