Guernsey Live is an indie, alternative metal and rock music and arts festival which is hosted in Guernsey, Channel Islands and is organised by Positiv Productions. The event is the largest festival to have been held in Guernsey, competing against the Vale Earth Fair. The festival has a dance tent featuring both UK and International DJs. Guernsey Live is organised by Warren Holt on behalf of Positiv Productions. [1]

History Of 2007

[edit]

Unfortunately, the organizers of the festive were unable to get a band to headline which led to the event being cancelled. Positiv Productions felt strongly about this missed opportunity and went ahead to start organising the 2008 Guernsey Live.

History of 2008

[edit]

The music festival in 2008 was nearly banned by the States of Guernsey who decided that sports should take place as this event had the potential to cause damage to the environment, preventing local sports from being played. The precautions that could be taken would not be enough even though evidence suggests that these precautions are good enough for Jersey Live who have not received any complaints. However the cricket association supported Guernsey Live for an event this size and said it had not been approached about the issue of giving up one of the playing fields. [2][3] Talks have led to a huge main stage and sound system from Reading & Leads to be imported for the centre stage. A mix of local and UK bands are set to play upon this stage with a dance tent to hold both UK and international DJs. The event is scheduled to run on the 3rd & 4th of May. [4] Unfortunately the main act, Pete Doherty has had to cancel his appearance in Guernsey due to the rulings of the UK court. His act has been replaced by The Enemy. [5]

The BBC have provided a summary of both days at the festival and have photographs of the event. [6] [7]

The question that is now left in everyone's mind is: Will the event continue? The festival organizers have lost £200k but with 3,500 people supporting the event will it be considered as a loss or a investment for the future. Only time will tell. [8]

The local ITV station filmed the event and have interviewed the bands. These should be coming out over the week. Day 1 Day 2 Blog
