Josephine Dale Lace (10 April 10, 1868 – 14 May 1937[1]) born in Richmond, in the Karoo Cape Colony was an actress, ice-skater[2] and charismatic Johannesburg socialite.[3] Described as the "Grande Dame in Johannesburg Society", Jose created a flamboyant reputation for herself in seven years[4] at Northwards[5], a magnificent Parktown Mansion with 40 rooms[6], was designed by Baker, Massey and Sloper.
