• Discussion of this proposed new version of Infobox college football player is welcome on the talk page for this sandbox. Each template parameter is numbered (e.g., [17]) for ease of reference and to facilitate discussion.

• Parameters [1] through [16] share identical names with those of Infobox NFL player, and are ordered in the same order as those of Infobox NFL player, in order to facilitate conversion of the infobox for those players who play professional football. Despite their shared parameters, the infoboxes for college and NFL player will each maintain their own distinctive appearance and graphics to visually distinguish American college football players and American professional football players. Canadian college and professional players will continue to use Template:Infobox gridiron football person, as preferred by WP:CFL.

• Parameters [17], [18] and [25] share identical names with those of Infobox NFL player. Parameter [17] will include previous college teams, if any, unlike the same parameter in Infobox NFL player, which includes only past pro teams. Likewise, parameter [18] will include only college honors, awards, etc. Parameter [25] is an optional parameter that will only be invoked for players who are inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, same as in Infobox NFL player.

• Parameters [19], [20], [21], [22], [23] and [24] are specific to the revised Infobox college football player, and will not be shared with Infobox NFL player. They are designed to provide information pertinent to the player's college football career and as well as the player's post-college non-sports career.

• Parameter [19] will list those post-season college bowl games, including college all-star games, in which the player participated.

• Parameter [20] will list the player's academic major.

• Parameter [21] will list the player's class year (e.g., Redshirt Freshman, Sophomore, Senior, etc.).

• Parameter [22] will list the player's academic degree awarded at graduation, together with graduation year. Parameters [21] and [22] are alternatives and will not be used together.

• For college players who did not play professional football or coach, parameter [23] will show a brief description of their post-college non-sports career. (FYI, players who played or coached in one or more regular season NFL or CFL games should use Template:Infobox NFL player or Template:Infobox gridiron football person. Players who coached in college should use Infobox college coach.)

• Likewise, parameters [11] and [12] are intended to give the revised Infobox college football player "lifetime reach" for All-Americans and other notable college players who never played professional sports or coached. This is one of the obvious shortfalls of the present version of the template.

• Parameter [24] will be a direct link to the player's webpage on his college team's website (or the Wayback webpage archive saved version of it). Virtually all Division I FBS teams now have individual webpages for their players. This is far more pertinent than some of the trashy CFB stats sites, which can be linked in the "external links" section if useful.
