PinStruck.com is a web site developed by Steem, LLC (now defunct) as an attempt at self promotion through viral marketing. The web site allows you to create a customized voodoo doll picture with an attached name. An e-mail is then sent to the "victim" with a link back to the customized doll. The site has the same role as other E-card web sites as well as the same delivery problems. Unlike other E-card services, PinStruck.com does not bother to collect any information about the sender since it is presumed that it would be falsified.
History
[edit]PinStruck.com first launched around Halloween 1999. It has been offline for a few extended periods of time due to financial troubles of Steem, LLC. However, the web site is currently running in a, mostly, self sustained fashion thanks to affordable modern web hosting, affiliate programs, and services like CafePress.
Over the years specialized holiday messages and doll characteristics have been added. Currently there are specialty messages and/or dolls for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas.
In Popular Culture
[edit]PinStruck.com has been mentioned in several print articles including Maxim, the New York Times, Vanity Fair, and Playboy. [1]
