ISO 9001 requires a business entity to follow a process approach when managing its business, and to this end creating business process maps will assist.[citation needed] The entity can then work towards ensuring its processes are effective (the right process is followed the first time), and efficient (continually improved to ensure processes use the smallest amount of resources).

Flowchart is a primary type of business process mapping. It consists of some symbols such as arrows, circle, diamond, box, oval or rectangle. The type of Flowchart just described is sometimes referred to as a “detailed” flowchart because it includes in detail, the inputs, activities, decision points, and outputs of any process.[citation needed]

My observations on the Business Process Mapping page:

The data refers to sources that are very vague, like "quality improvement practitioners have noted ... " or "Six Sigma practitioners use ..."

The information seems to be based more on the perception of the writer instead of facts taken from credible sources. I can't be sure that the information is accurate because much of the information is not verifiable. There are no references to sources for the most part, especially in the opening few paragraphs. Some of the information is presented in a confusing manner that does not make sense. This article does not cover all of the major facets of this particular topic.Dragonfly5660 (talk) 23:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Assignment 2: Rough draft of new content with 2 relevant, reliable sources for the new content and how each source relates to the content I want to add:

My search strategy was to use business articles to validate an accurate definition of ISO 9001 and how they are related to Process Mapping and then as a second part, research articles that would validate the characteristics of process mapping that make it valuable in terms of ISO certification. International Organization for Standardization or ISO 9001: 2000 encourages a process approach to quality management. [1] Through process mapping, organizations can visually communicate business processes in great detail to more easily assess their effectiveness.[2]Dragonfly5660 (talk) 00:23, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

The first information source relates to the ISO 9001 and how it relates to process mapping. The second information source relates directly to how process mapping structurally lends itself as a tool to achieving ISO standard certification. Dragonfly5660 (talk) 00:23, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Dragonfly5660 I found an article I think might be helpful. Windisch, J., Röser, D., Mola-Yudego, B., Sikanen, L., & Asikainen, A. (2013). See below for the new content that I have already added to the "Process Mapping" page. I have also noted the citation below and it also appears on the "Process Mapping" page. I did note that there have been no objections so far to the page edit!  :) Dragonfly5660 (talk) 23:50, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

International Organization for Standardization or ISO 9001 : 2000 encourages a process approach to quality management. It is important to understand how each process relates to other processes within the organization and how those interactions impact Quality Management. [1]
