Locust Street is notable as one of William Penn's original streets in his plan for building the "1200 acre site of Philadelphia."[1] Pine Street is one of the original in Penn's plan that are named after a tree traversing east-west, termed an "odanym".[2]
Going from east to west, Locust Street starts in Washington Park around "Philadelphia's Littlest Streets" and passes by the Library Company of Philadelphia just before Broad Street and Rittenhouse Square at 18th and 19th Streets, before terminating at 25th Street.[3]
