Revelation Space is a non-profit Dutch hackerspace[3] founded in 2009[4][5][1] that is currently seated in Leidschendam with mainly participants from the region of South Holland.[6] The name originates from the book Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds.[4]
Projects
[edit]RevBank
[edit]RevSpace participants started the development of a self-checkout prepaid payment system written in Perl which is currently used by most Dutch hackerspaces and one Swiss hackerspace.[8][7]
HEMA USB flash drives
[edit]RevSpace participants researched the security of USB flash drives sold by HEMA, which were found to be insecure. HEMA withdraw them from the market after publication of the research.[9][10][11]
Hacking hotline
[edit]RevSpace participants founded the hacking hotline[12][13] for responsible disclosure of security vulnerabilities. They argued the government policy on this subject was off-balance.[14] RevSpace is also actively spreading the hacker ethic.[15][16]
