The National Union of School Sport (U.N.S.S)

[edit]

The National Union of School Sport (UNSS) is the French federation of secondary school sports. Considered as multisport, it is open to all young high school and college students through sports associations (AS), and takes place on Wednesday afternoon.

History

The UNSS was created as the University Sports Office (OSU) in 1931, before becoming the University School Sport Office (OSSU) in 1938 (its foundation was twice declared by legislators in 1938 and in 1945 and remains confused). The OSSU became the Association of University School Sport (ASSU) in 1961 before obtaining its current name in 19752.

Members:

With 1,040,000 graduates for the 2012-2013 school year, the UNSS is the third sports authority in terms of number of members (after the FFF and the FFT)

Goal/purpose :

School sport seeks to highlight the educational value of sport, in order to develop the practice of sport activities that are components of physical education and sport (EPS) and the learning of associative life by students who have joined the second degree sports associations (AS). Organization: Thanks to its association status (law 1901) and its network of physical and sports education teachers (a three-hour mandatory weekly flat-rate service for the animation of an AS), the UNSS organises sport match throughout the school year only for students in high schools. UNSS is France's third largest sports federation (after football and tennis) with 983,149 members (in 2012) from secondary schools (23.70% of the total number of pupils) and 40% of whom are girls. The federation has a general budget of 30 million euros, of which 18.5 million is a grant from the Ministry of National Education, 1 million from the Ministry of Sports and 10 million from sports associations. The expenses are mainly used to pay the salaries of the 180 seconded directors and the 150 assistants of the UNSS

Actions:

UNSS has decided to list the actions of the sports association on the three poles:

* Development Promote sports initiation, the discovery of sports, and the pleasure of sports practice. '* Tournament'
