The Luderitz Crayfish Festival

This is an annual even which takes place in a small town in the south west of Namibia. This event showcase the rich sea life, town's history and includes many activites such as cultural dance, the testing of many different kinds of fish and perfomances by local artists. The Luderitz Crayfish Festival was first lunched by Farmer Deputy Prime Minister Dr Libertina Amathila on Behalf of President Hifikepunye Pohamba in April 2008. This festival was launched with the aim of putting Luderitz on the map as a major tourism destination and to raise the town's economic profile and culture. The annual Crayfish festival usually take place in April at Luderitz Harbour Square.

The main aim of this festival is to enable Luderitz to become a major tourist attraction and investment destination by releasing its economic potential. The festival usually showcase rich sea life history in associated with the harbour town of Luderitz and many local people and tourist attend this event in order for them to have an opportunity to see the tourist attraction areas such as the dominating German colonial architecture, Luderitz' unique landscape and topography as well as the popular "Ghost town" ofKolmanskop.The festival allows people to mix, socialize and to appreciate the tradition of the communtiy of Luderitz. The festival has many advantages for the local people and the country at large, this includes improving the standards of the local people and contributing to the country's economy.
