Darkness (a.k.a. Leif Jonker's Darkness, digitally remastered director's cut re-released as Darkness: The Vampire Version in 2006) is an independent horror film originally released in 1993. The film was shot on Super8 in and around Witchita, Kansas in 1991, with a budget of approximately $5,000.

Some sources claim edited by John Carpenter under pseudonym John T. Chance, I think it's an in-joke. To be verified.

Inspiration[edit]

Jonker states the film's gory and brutal depiction of vampires is in part a reaction to the over-romanticized, cultured vampires of Interview With The Vampire. To be verified.

Cult Status[edit]

Darkness has been featured at multiple independent film festivals including Nevermore 2005 in Durham NC (US), Night of the Bloody Tapes (Germany), and Fantafestival (Italy).[citation needed]

OLD STUFF

Jonker, 19 at the time, wrote, directed, edited, produced the film.

Darkness is known for having the most exploding heads in one film. The large number of special effects were created by Leif Jonker and star vampire hunter, Gary Miller.

Plot Summary from the Internet Movie Database:

A small community is besieged by vampires. After he watches friends ravaged in a convenience store, a lone avenger goes off to do battle with the undead, armed with shotgun, chainsaw, and Holy water. Later he finds other survivors and they try to stay alive long enough to do battle with Liven, king of the vampires.
