The Belsky Museum of Local history is the museum of local history of the town of Bely, Tver region. It is one of the branches office of the Tver State United Museum (TSUM).

History creating of museum

The beginning of the Belsky Museum of Local history was laid in 1919, when things from nationalized noble estates were brought to it.

The museum was officially opened on August 14, 1925 at the county Society of Local history.

Expositions

In 1937, a new local history exposition was created. At that time, about 400 exhibits were stored in the museum's funds. Particularly valuable and interesting was the collection of silver Byzantine and Arab coins of the XII—XIII centuries from the treasure found at the village of Gridiakino. But in the first days of the Fascist occupation (October 1941), the local history exposition was looted by the invaders.

The exposition of the post-war museum is based on the memories of Soviet soldiers who defended and liberated the city and district, their photographs, personal belongings. These materials, collected by local history teachers V.K. Ilyina and P.V. Ivanov, as well as relics from the battlefields became the first exhibits of the museum, reopened in the 1960s.

On the day of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the town from the Fascist invaders, March 10, 2008, a modern exposition of the museum was opened. Three thematic expositions telling about the history of the Belsky Region are deployed in 2 halls.

In the hall dedicated to the history of the peasantry of the Belsky district, a part of the peasant's hut has been recreated, a collection of women's peasant costume of the early XX century, a weaving mill, a spinning wheel, clay pots - pottery and many other household items are presented.

Russian warrior's chain mail, cannon, cannonballs, battle and construction axes tell about the history of the White Fortress, the borderland of the Russian state in the XIV—XVI centuries.

A special page in the history of the Belsky Region is the fighting on the territory of the district in 1941-1943. The museum presents schematic maps, posters, wartime newspapers, photographs of participants in the battles, samples of weapons and equipment of the Red Army and Wehrmacht soldiers, relics from the battlefields tell about the defensive battles in July - October 1941, about the offensive operations of the Soviet troops in 1942-1943.

Temporary exhibitions are displayed in a small exhibition hall. There are 5219 storage units in the museum's funds.

More than 2000 people visit the museum every year.
