RecX

RecX is a protein that negatively regulates RecA recombinase activity in a number of bacteria. The gene was originally identified as potentially regulating RecA activity in Pseudomonas aeruginosa because it is situated immediately downstream from RecA, and overexpression of RecA without RecX overexpression is toxic to P. aeruginosa, as well as Streptomyces lividans.^[1]

The proteins being transcribed as part of an operon with RecA was first identified via qPCR in the Mycobacterium smegmatis^[1]
