Cassino[edit]

Cassino is a town in the department of Frosinone, in Central Italy, which is known for being a battlefield during the World War II. The famous benedictine Abbey of Montecassino suffered bombing and was then rebuilt based on the original design. It hosts the tombs of Saint Benedict, the founder of the benedictine order, and his sister Saint Scholastica. The crypt is the only original site in the abbey, otherwise completely reconstructed after the last war.

Biomedical spectroscopy[edit]

Biomedical spectroscopy is a multidisciplinary research field involving spectroscopic tools for applications in the field of biomedical science. Vibrational spectroscopy such as Raman and infrared spectroscopy is used to determine the chemical composition of a material based on detection of vibrational modes of constituent molecules. Some spectroscopic methods are routinely used in clinical settings for diagnosis of disease; an example is Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic imaging is a form of chemical imaging for which the contrast is provided by composition of the material.

Jalali calendar[edit]

The Jalali calendar was created by a committee of eight "wise men", including the poet Omar Khayyam.[1]
